The Non-Com Revolution

I read an article the other day about the continuing emergence of “non-com's.” “Non-com's” are domain names that are not .com's. They are popping up everywhere, and even big name movies like The Hunger Games are ditching the .com for the new wave of “non-com's.” iIn the case of The Hunger Games, the “.movie” extension.

While .com's used to be the prevalent extension, we are now seeing so many other options opening up. Some of the newer ones include “.photography,” “.wedding,” “.photos,” and “.events.” With the expansion of everything internet these days, it's no surprise that these new domain extensions are opening up. Trying to find a new and unique “.com” to buy is almost impossible, as there are limited ones left, and there are several companies buying up names and selling them at a premium, which can be frustrating when you're trying to buy a new domain name.

I see these new extensions as a fresh option, and the fact that they are becoming more mainstream is a great thing. As consumers continue to build businesses and websites (because let's face it, you need to exist on the web these days), the demand for domain names will become even greater and more and more creative extensions will be opening up before our eyes.
