We have a lot of Showiteers in our community who are not only photographers, but also are constantly giving back to their communities in big ways. Jill Schwarzkopf with Realities Photography has one of the biggest hearts I've encountered while working with Showiteers. Read about how she began her non-profit, Sleep Tight Kids, and what you can do to help. Jill and Sleep Tight Kids are currently based in Asheville, North Carolina.

How long as your non-profit been in existence?

Since 2009.

What is the mission of your non-profit?

Sleep Tight Kids donates bed-time related items for children, including blankets, toys and books, either directly to needy families or through parterships with other non-profit organizations supporting needy families, with a focus on families in Western North Carolina. The goal of the corportation is to promote feelings of hope and comfort in children as they lay their heads to rest each night.

What made you want to start your non-profit? Is there a story behind it?

I actually had a dream about it. I knew when I woke up, I would have to take action. I contacted a non-profit lawyer and became a 501(c)(3) within 2 months of having the dream. I have a passion for helping children. There are many needy families, going thru difficult times and sometimes unthinkable circumstances. It is our job to provide comfort and hope. These children need to know there is someone out there that really cares.

Are you a local non-profit, or are you nationwide? Are you looking to expand your reach to other areas?

I am looking to expand on a global level.

What can Showiteers do to help your cause?

The more people that donate and tell about the cause, the better. One of my goals is to have a STK Representative in every city. They could disperse the items to their local organizations in need.
