Rebuilding Community

.

Com·mu·ni·ty

kəˈmyo͞onitē

– A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

There has been quite a bit of conversation lately regarding our community. There have been many Facebook comments like “it isn't the same as it once was” or “remember the good old days?” and I am here to say, it is time to move forward. If we truly want our community to be strong, if we really want to grow, we have to stop living in the past.

Memories are great. Go ahead and recollect stories and laugh together, but let it be the past. No one wants to be the ex-football player at the class reunion who only wants to talk about what happened 20 years ago. We have to live in the present to make the future a better place. It is time for us to embrace the change and own it.

We, you and I, are the community. We get to decide how we interact with each other. We get to be the ones who encourage each other and answer each others questions. We get to be the ones who poke fun at each other and console each other. We, you and I, can make this community whatever we want.

It is time for us to be the community we talk about and make this a positive and encouraging place for all Showiteers.
